Captain America #1 (Comic Book Script, Complete, Alternate Reality)

Captain America #1
Written by Braden Michael Kittle

PAGE 1
1 – Full page splash of hands, Steve Rogers’ hands, turned palms up, fingers flexing, covered in blood. He is deep in thought.
STEVE ROGERS/CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Thought narration)
We were so close to becoming heroes. We were so close.
It was to be a baptism by fire – gunfire, hellfire, all the same.
After it was over, we would be remembered by the world as the men that SAVED FREEDOM in the East.

PAGE 2
1 – Steve Rogers, Super Soldier, in full 1970s U.S. Army combat dress, runs at a gazelle’s pace through high green grass and all the way dodges bullets fired from a fortified bunker half a mile away.
2 – Steve opens up on the foxholes as he approaches with a hail of automatic, and precisely placed, gunfire, killing three.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Thought narration)
Well, we weren’t heroes. We were murderers.
3 – Steve rams his combat knife hilt deep into a Viet Cong officer just above the collar bone.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Thought narration)
All of the blood…
4 – Steve stands to the right of a chair glaring down at a Vietnamese soldier who clutches his right hand, which is missing a finger. Steve dangles the finger just out of the reach of the Doberman at his side.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Thought narration)
And the torture…
5 – Steve, with his back to us, stunned and arms limp at his side barely holding his helmet, stands staring into the scorched remains of a small Vietnamese village, bodies of civilians, children included, lay in the blackened mess, some of them being dragged into piles by U.S. Army soldiers.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Thought narration)
And the innocent dead…
6 – A sepia tone photograph of President Nixon.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Thought narration)
All of it meaningless. Redemption was thrown away by Richard damned Nixon.
PAGE 3
1 – Large panel takes up three quarters of the page of hands, Captain America’s hands, gloved in red, fingers flexing. He thinks to himself still.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Thought narration)
Nixon was a spineless thug and it would seem that all politicians are the same.
2 – Tall panel to the right of panel 1, close body shot of Steve Rogers, Captain America, facing away from us, in sweatpants and a black sleeveless tee, wearing the red gloves of his costume, stands from a weight bench, head lowered with an empty gaze pointed toward his flexing right arm. He is a bit older than traditionally presented with pale, greying blond hair and a little salty stubble around his jawline.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Thought narration)
The United States government is in the business of making Super Soldiers again, thirty-five years later, only this time they work in secret, cutting corners, and working with known drug terrorist, the POWER BROKER.
3 – Steve takes a quick, hot shower, clouds of steam obscure his muscled figure.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Thought narration)
And they aren’t asking for volunteers. They’re FORCING death row inmates into the program as test subjects.
4 – Steve Rogers becomes Captain America, standing now in the flag-themed, bullet-proof, costume, pulling on the reinforced, blue cowl/helmet.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Thought narration)
I won’t allow this to continue. The American Government may have abandoned the American Dream, but I haven’t.
5 – Close shot of the famous, round, indestructible shield.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Thought narration)
And if the president knows what I know, if he’s approved of this operation, I’m going to personally bring that dream crashing through his front door.
PAGE 4
1 – As if looking through binoculars we see Captain America descend into the sewers through a man-hole. This panel overlaps the top left corner of a larger half-page panel (known colloquially as “Panel 2”).
2 – Medium shot. Cap trudges through the dank underbelly of New York City his shield on his back.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Thought narration)
The sewers. One of the few places this red, white, and blue can move about unseen and unhindered.
The Power Broker’s research and development compound is still many miles away.
3 – This panel overlaps the bottom right corner of panel 2. Close on Cap’s face. He’s being followed by someone very skilled, and he’s not yet sure of it, but he’s heard something.
4 – We peer at Cap from a distance, hidden in the darkness from behind the cover of a drain pipe. The silhouette of a few tendrils of long curly hair hangs into the scene.
5 – Close on Cap’s face, his eyes narrowed as he smiles darkly.
6 – Long shot of Cap. Behind him a feminine figure follows. Cap has moved his shield from his back onto his right arm and continues to press ahead.
PAGE 5
1 – Medium wide shot, one-third page size, Cap turns and lets his shield fly with a defiant roar.
2 – The black-garbed female gracefully flips over the shield and begins to close distance. She is Natalia Romanova, the Black Widow; for her this is natural as breathing.
BLACK WIDOW
Come now Steven, can’t we have nice chat?
3 – A small panel overlaps showing the shield bounce off of the sewer wall to return toward Cap.
4 – Detailed medium shot of Cap dodging a jump kick from the deadly Black Widow.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
You’ll call me Captain, commie, and there ain’t ever anything nice about you!
5 – As the shield approaches, Black Widow does a back flip onto it, catching a ride.
BLACK WIDOW
Tsk, tsk, tsk.
6 – Her acrobatic maneuver doesn’t deter Cap in the slightest as he matches it with his own, flipping backward while kicking her in the jaw, jettisoning her from his shield as he grabs it out of the air in the same motion.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Sit down.
7 – Cap holds the Widow off the ground and against the sewer wall by the neck with one hand, and his other is reared back, shield pointed edge-first toward her face.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
The hell are you doing following me?
BLACK WIDOW
Keeping tabs.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
The Power Broker’s bought you too then. Guess that doesn’t surprise me.
Commie like you.
BLACK WIDOW
Not Power Broker.
Fury.
And he didn’t buy me either, I’m doing this as  favor.
PAGE 6
This page is split into three tall panels of equal size.
1 –Cap drops the Widow and lowers his shield.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
What?
2 –Widow stands, her hand on the side of her head as she rolls her eyes. Cap watches and listens.
BLACK WIDOW
*Sigh*
Men.
Fury ask me to follow you. I do this.
He worries about you, Captain America.
He knows about your steroid problem.
He say you are reckless.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
That’s none of your damn business!
And how the hell do you know Nick Fury?
BLACK WIDOW
Nicolas is a very… compelling man. He and I have had much to discuss as of late.
Such as this Power Broker adventure of yours.
Don’t you think it’s hypocritical of you to start a Crusade over the government working with this man when you have an addiction to an illegal substance yourself?
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Wild text)
I HAVE TO TAKE--!
(pauses a second to breathe) I have a choice in what I’m doing to myself. This new super soldier program is forced upon the subjects – they have NO choice.
It’s about freedom. It’s always been about freedom.
3 – Widow and Cap exchange hard stares, both of them with hands on their hips.
BLACK WIDOW
Fair enough, Captain. How did you catch me anyway?
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Hmph.
Easy.
You expected the sewers to mask that absurd perfume you’re wearing.
*sniff*
Senses of a predator.
BLACK WIDOW
Well, what are you waiting for? Lead on Captain America.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Oh, no. No, I think not.
Go back to Fury, Red. I’m not leading you anywhere.
BLACK WIDOW
Must we fight again?
CAPTAIN AMERICA
*sigh*
Women.
PAGE 7
1 – Wesley Charlet, the Power Broker, stands tall in a modern, industrial styled office, wearing a tailored, designer suit, and clutching a red skull, THE Red Skull of Rasputin, as he talks on the phone. On his desk, a scantily clad woman, VIBRAXA, lays sprawled over paperwork, and another, VAVAVOOM, lounges in the chair caressing Vibraxa’s hips with her foot.
POWER BROKER
Ah, yes Senator, I can meet with you next Thursday about your mutant situation.
I have a fantastic team of engineers, capable of rivaling anything Ol’ Stark can rustle up.
Ahaha, yes, sir, the old man, not his two-bit offspring.
Well, that sounds splendid, I’ll see you then. Enjoy your day, Mr. Kelly.
VAVAVOOM
Oh, Wesley, you can be SO boring sometimes…
VIBRAXA
All work and no play just means that the dull boy misses out on all the fun.
2 – Wesley faces away from us toward the women, holding the Skull to his side. Vibraxa has crawled to his side, licking the Skull lasciviously while Vavavoom undresses at the desk.
POWER BROKER
Now, where were we…?
3 – Two men in bulletproof body armor lay unconscious against the walls of the sewer a few yards away from a ladder to the surface, their modified AKs and several bullet casings scattered across the floor.
SECURITY MONITOR
(Communications Technology Text)
Communications with the patrol team in Tunnels B has ceased. Support unit – check it out. Rearguard is on high alert.
4 – Captain America emerges from the sewers at the rear entrance to the Power Broker’s compound using the manhole cover and his shield to protect himself and Black Widow from a hail of gunfire as three additional men with the same gear as in panel 3 attack them.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Widow, tactical fire to wound only!
BLACK WIDOW
Aye, aye, Captain!
5 – Medium shot, side view, Captain America uses the shield and manhole cover to protect himself and Black Widow, while she kneels behind him, fires two handguns around Cap’s hips with surgical precision.
6 – Same angle as panel 4, only now the three gunmen are bleeding on the ground, relieved of their weapons. Cap is knelt beside one of the men.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Where’s your boss?
PAGE 8
1 – An alarm sounds as Widow and Cap crash through the secondary defenses. Cap’s shield destroys a camera/turret mounted on the ceiling, bounces from the ceiling to the wall and then the floor tripping a gunman up. Widow slides along the floor evading bullets and firing at two other guards along the way.
BLACK WIDOW
After this the game is infiltration.
We need to stay out of sight until we know the lay of the land and what we’re dealing with.
You follow my lead.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
That’s where you’re wrong, Widow.
I KNOW what I’m dealing with.
The Power Broker.
And I know where he is.
Considering I’m the one of us who can take a gunshot or three, I suggest you follow MY lead.
2 – SOMEWHERE IN BRAZIL.
A tall man stands, wearing a tactical stealth suit, his back to us, hunched over a wide computer terminal with multiple keypads, various switches, and several screens. Two armed guards lay on the ground behind him. His hands, glowing faintly with blue energy, rest in the air just above one keyboard.
COMPUTER TERMINAL
System override code Fury Gemini Zodiac accepted. Welcome, Colonel.
3 – Close view of Fury’s face complete with trademark eyepatch and gray temples. A blue glow plays over his hard features.
FURY
Director Pincer, this is Fury reporting. I’m in.
4 – Medium view centered on Power Broker. The lights in his room are dim, in silhouette, Vavavoom is closest, her bare back facing us, one hand behind her head, tugging her own hair. Vibraxa’s naked form falls off the bed as the Power Broker sits up swiftly.
POWER BROKER
Agent Fury. You’re in where?
FURY
(Comm Tech Text)
I’m in The Fixer’s mainframe. There’s a lot of interesting stuff here…
POWER BROKER
You have one job to do. Do it.
(Click)
5 – Close view of one screen in front of Fury, with part of Fury silhouetted against it. The screen shows a three-dimensional, digitally-mapped image of plans for a machine, and overlaying it all, the words: NEGATIVE BATTERY.
FURY
Yes, sir…
PAGE 9
1 – Heavily armored defense units pour into a clean, well lit hallway, white-painted walls with nouveau-pop paintings along them. The place has taken the look of a law or accounting firm. These new units are well trained and well armed. Cap and Widow fight bitterly to reach the other side.

BLACK WIDOW

Things are starting to look pretty hairy, just like I knew they would.

CAPTAIN AMERICA

Nothing I can’t handle.

BLACK WIDOW

We should drop off the grid now while we still can!

CAPTAIN AMERICA

If this seems over your head, pretty lady, why don’t you run home to the Colonel?

2 – Widow and Cap continue fighting, doing their best to keep their heads above water. The walls are riddled with bullet holes.

BLACK WIDOW

(Small text)

This is ridiculous.

CAPTAIN AMERICA

What did you say?

BLACK WIDOW
I am NEVER working with you again!

3The pair of heroes stand among a pile of armed guards, bloodied and bruised, bulletmarks still smoking upon Cap’s shield.

CAPTAIN AMERICA

Did you hear that?
4 – Large panel; takes up a third of the page. Crashing through a wall comes what seems to be a cross between a tank and powered armor. Cap has grabbed Widow across the waist leaping away as he shields them as best he can from the torrent of highly-illegal, heavy firepower coming their way from mini-rockets to anti-tank rounds.
5 – Shrapnel and gunshot wounds mar Cap’s costume as he and Widow lie on the ground half-covered over by debris. An elevator dings open halfway off panel. Widow looks at it misty eyed.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Koff! Koff! Are you okay?
BLACK WIDOW
I…
5 – Embracing Cap between her thighs, Black Widow rolls herself and Cap over and away from another wave of bullets as the huge machine finds them. Her hands free, she tosses a smoke grenade between them and the metal titan.
BLACK WIDOW
On your feet, Captain!
We have to move!
6 – As the elevator doors close she desperately drags herself and Captain America into it dodging through debris and payload.
7 – The Widow slams her hand onto the buttons to various floors, but before the elevator could go anywhere on its own power they are rattled by an explosion.
BLACK WIDOW
Oh *%#@.
PAGE 10
1 – The elevator is rocked off of its tracks by an explosion, its cables snapped like rubber bands, and it plummets down at breakneck speed.
2 – The elevator crashes violently at the end of the road in a murky service shaft, broken apart, its doors flying off from the force of impact and delivering a shock wave that unhinges the floor under it.
3 – Cap carries a torn and tattered Black Widow out of the wreckage, him not looking any better for the ware. The walkway is an old, weathered metal grate above empty darkness. The walls are lined with pipes and circuit boards.
4 – MEANWHILE…
Good sized panel. Power Broker’s room, same dimly lit set up as before with silhouetted figures. Vibraxa lies on the bed unconscious while the Broker has Vavavoom pinned against the wall, her thighs wrapped around his back. The Broker’s expression is annoyed and his head is turned toward the ceiling as he rolls his eyes. Vavavoom looks furious.
POWER BROKER
*sigh*
This better be good.
VAVAVOOM
@#$% you, Wesley!! Don’t stop!
POWER BROKER
(small text)
Shut the @!#% up.
HEAD OF SECURITY
(Comm Tech text)
Two intruders have been subdued in the Façade C area, but they caused a whole lot of collateral damage before we could bring them down.
POWER BROKER
Intruders?! Why wasn’t I informed MUCH earlier?
HEAD OF SECURITY
(Comm Tech text)
Well, like I said, they caused collateral damage, including strategically taking out any cameras in their path, and striking our men down before they could even think of radioing in.
(small text)
God, they were scary.
5 – Close up on the Broker’s face. Vavavoom’s face, obviously livid, is seen in the background.
POWER BROKER
Scary, huh? Who the @#%$ were they?!
HEAD OF SECURITY
(Comm Tech text)
As of right now it is believed the intruders, Captain America and Black Widow, are dead.
I’ve sent a retrieval team after them.
POWER BROKER
(wild text)
You’ve sen--?!
(recovers himself)
You’ve sent a retrieval team.
You seriously think you #$%^ ups took down CAPTAIN AMERICA and BLACK WIDOW?
PAGE 11
1 – THE HANDLERS.
The room is pristine and calming. Topiary displays dot the scenery, and a group of eclectic individuals go about their business, watched by another group of clean, white garbed technicians, called The Handlers by the Power Broker. It has the feel of an adult daycare. A rest home. Something about those watched by The Handlers seems… off.
2 – Two old men sit at a table playing chess.
3 – A man and a woman, mid thirties, sit at another table, drinking tea.
4 – A little girl chases a little boy between topiaries. In the background another little girl, younger, plays with Legos.
5 – Cap carries the Widow into The Handlers’ domain through glass double doors. He is flanked on each side by emerald green arborvitae.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Are you doctors?
6 – Several of the handlers look at Cap with blank faces.
7 – Cap falters, his strength all but spent.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
(Shaky speech balloon)
(Small text)
Because… I think—Koff! Koff! Koff! Koff! —I think she’s dying.
8 – Cap slumps over to his knees, his grip on the Widow gone. People’s shadows approach him.
9 – Cap and Widow lay unconscious on the floor. A group of the nonfunctionals circle them, and, closest to us, one of The Handlers approaches.
PAGE 12
1 – Vavavoom (in costume now) stands in front a group of the Power Broker’s goons and next to the sentry in powered armor. She looks into the hole in the wall that leads to the ruined elevator shaft, her arms crossed.
VAVAVOOM
So this is where you killed Captain America and the Black Widow?
Ha! There’s barely any blood!
You will all follow me, understood?
2 – A thin, tall panel depicts Vavavoom and her goons leaping down the elevator shaft.
3 – This panel is fair-sized, a medium shot depicting a pristine white room, with The Handlers affixing diodes and tubes to Black Widow and Captain America who are unconscious in some sort of hi-tech surgery beds.
HANDLER 1
(Working with Cap)
This one is responding to the treatment with incredible speed.
4 – Vavavoom kneels down gazing at the ground, holding one hand in the air with two fingers pointed up, covered in blood.
VAVAVOOM
They were here.
5 – Vavavoom and the squad reach the entrance to The Handlers’ Ward. She holds a small handgun of strange make and orange color in each hand and her head is turned to the side and she addresses the goons behind her. Her goons stand with large rifles at the ready.
VAVAVOOM
This is one of Mr. Charlet’s secret projects.
I don’t know what we’ll find in here, but the targets went through.
Shoot first, ask questions later.
Collateral damage is… desirable.
We’ll sort it all out once Captain America and Black Widow are dead.
6 – Back in the treatment room with Widow and Cap. One of the Handlers near Widow holds defibrillators aloft and another holds an oxygen mask to her face.
HANDLER 2
(The one holding the mask)
We’re losing her!
7 – Medium-large panel. Vavavoom and squad have entered the ward and come to meet with children and invalids at play. The panel should highlight the awkward contrast between a raid group within the adult daycare looking ward.
VAVAVOOM
Hold your fire.
PAGE 13
1 – MARIANAS TRENCH, PACIFIC OCEAN
A small panel, depicting a small marine vessel, likely large enough for just one man, descends through the deepest part of the ocean. The surroundings are intensely dark though huge, obscure things can be seen moving in the water. The vessel moves toward what appears to be a structure with search lights buried within a dark crevasse.
2 – Much closer to the structure, the vessel fires upon the search lights, taking them out, while turrets along the structure return fire only to hit a shield formed around the vessel. A man is seen swimming around to the back of the structure.
3 – Within the structure, the man moves down a corridor, dripping water on the floor, but meeting no resistance. A handgun rests in his right hand and a camera along the ceiling is decommissioned and sparking.
4 – The man, removing his helmet, though with his back to us, enters a room filled with computer terminals. His hair is brown with grey temples.
5 – A much larger panel which takes up half the page. The room encloses a particle collider and the equipment and computers to observe and collect data on the reactions. More importantly, Our wetsuited man, still back to us, has encountered resistance in the form of Adam Brashear, aka the Blue Marvel!
BLUE MARVEL
Nicolas Fury?!
FURY
The one and only.
BLUE MARVEL
What are you doing here?!
Why couldn’t I sense your approach?
FURY
By the orders of Director Pincer of SHIELD you are to stand down and relinquish your base and all contents therein to the United States Government.
BLUE MARVEL
No, no, that’s not happening, spook.
Now get out before I—
Before…
FURY
Funny thing about powers; they always seem to run out just when you need ‘em. Experience on the other hand…
PAGE 14
1 – Large panel. Vavavoom and her squad are approached by three Handlers. The children in the room cower behind or under tables and chairs. One Handler holds a hand to one ear.
HANDLER 3
(Comm tech bubble)
No, no problem, it’s just some of the Broker’s men.
(normal bubble)
And who exactly are you looking for?
VAVAVOOM
A man and a woman came to these doors and their tracks disappear.
Captain America and the Black Widow.
You should know them on sight, but in case you don’t
They are incredibly dangerous and they do not belong here.
HANDLER 3
Couldn’t I say the same thing about you?
You are aware that this is a restricted area, aren’t you?
We operate here under the strict agreement that
Our affairs are NOT to be meddled with.
VAVAVOOM
Yes…
Just what is it you do down here?
2 – Cap has regained consciousness and though he still lies in the surgery bed, all but one tube has been removed from him. Black Widow is still under. He speaks with a Handler nearby.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
How long was I out?
How is she?
HANDLER 1
You have been in our custody for twelve minutes, twenty-three seconds, and counting.
You have enhanced physiology.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Yes.
HANDLER 1
Your companion has had difficulties.
She had an adverse reaction to the treatment early on.
We have stabilized her.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Twelve minutes?
3 – Cap tears himself free from his bed. He lurches forward and wrings his hands around the Handler’s neck.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
WHAT DID YOU DO TO US?!
4 – A stand of medical items and tools is knocked over in the commotion to restrain Captain America.
HANDLER 1
You came to us broken!
We fixed you!
She is in no danger, i-in fact, she should be coming around in 15 to 20 minutes!
PAGE 15
1 – Back in the Handler’s Ward, Vavavoom is being led around by the Handler she spoke to earlier. She is getting “the tour.” The Handler gestures toward a boy and girl hiding under a table.
HANDLER 3
These two have some fascinating ideas on not only nuclear fusion, but interstellar travel.
You see all of our “patients” are exceptional geniuses in their own right.
We help each other out here.
In exchange for our basic care and services
We glean advanced intel and study from their minds.
We’re making GRAND strides in sciences.
2 – Vavavoom has turned to her squad, her head inclined toward the Handler, she points with two fingers toward two of her men.
VAVAVOOM
These child prodigies and delusional geriatrics are all smarter’n you
So you use them for their brilliant ideas
And you take all the credit.
Boys! Detain them.
HANDLER 3
Wha-Wait!
VAVAVOOM
Nobody leaves this facility.
You two; with me.
3 – A large panel taking up the bottom half of the page. Vavavoom kicks over a topiary as she moves through another set of glass double-doors. She is followed by two goons. Her other goons point their guns at the children and elderly, and one of them has taken the Handler into a half nelson.
VAVAVOOM
I will turn this place upside down!
I will set your asses ablaze!
If any of you gives me resistance, I promise
I will put a bullet in your brain!
PAGE 16
Page 16 is divided into four long panels, each spanning an equal portion of the page horizontally.
1 – Captain America looks down at Black Widow who remains unconscious, and the Handler next to him looks at a bulky watch-like device on his wrist. Another Handler, standing behind, puts his hand on the first Handler’s shoulder.
HANDLER 2
What is it?
HANDLER 1
The panic signal.
They must have taken the recreation room.
We have to get these two out of here!
We must not lose our research!
2 – Vavavoom and her goons move quickly through the facility, passing the kitchen and lavatories, they pace down a corridor. One of her goons checks a broom cupboard, another opens a locker in the hallway. Green smoke pours out from a canister lying on the kitchen floor and out from the lavatory doors.
VAVAVOOM
The Black Widow is an accomplished spy
She may be skulking in the shadows or
In disguise; hiding in plain sight.
Incapacitate any young woman on sight.
Leave the Captain to me.
3 – Captain America pulls Black Widow’s upper body out of the surgery bed as Handlers remove the last of her tubing and diodes.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Power Broker’s men are coming?
Why should we run?
I’ll make sure they never walk again!
HANDLER 2
No, you fool!
If you fight you’ll wreck our labs
And endanger innocent lives!
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Hrgn… so what do we do?
HANDLER 1
There’s a set of sewer lines through the bathing area.
I’ll lead you to—
4 – The door to the very room Cap, the Widow, and the other Handlers are in is flung from its hinges as Vavavoom and her two goons enter the room guns blazing. Vavavoom fires green beams of energy from her strange looking guns striking down two Handlers as she charges after Cap. The Handler that was speaking to Cap runs toward the back, Cap, carrying the Widow, follows. Another Handler, ducked under a medical tray, fires a ray gun at one Vavavoom’s goons knocking him off his feet.
VAVAVOOM
Fire at will!
Leave none alive.
HANDLER 1
(The one with Cap)
Follow me!!
The rest of you; buy us some time!!
PAGE 17
Three smaller panels sit above a fourth panel that fills the rest of the page.
1 – With gunfire surrounding him Handler 2 leaps to the wall, pressing a button that activates thick steel doors covering the entrance and exit. A siren sounds complete with red emergency lighting.
2 – Vavavoom kicks another Handler across the room, knocking over one of the surgery beds.
VAVAVOOM
Aiyaaa!
3 – Handler 2 fires a netgun, successfully entangling Vavavoom.
4 – (big splash panel) Vavavoom bursts free from the net with an effortless, but nonetheless immense force. Handler 2 cowers in the corner of the ruined emergency room, and on the floor are two dead Handlers and two unconscious goons.
VAVAVOOM
VAVAVOOM!!
The Power Broker hulked me out!
Do you think these iron curtains are going to stop me?
PAGE 18
Six equal panels divide this page.
1 – Cap, holding the Widow stands in a men’s room, watching Handler 1 as he pries open a sewer drain no wider than Cap’s arm.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
This was your escape plan?
HANDLER 1
I don’t deny it will require a certain finesse.
2 – Black Widow lays on the ground, while Cap approaches the now opened drain brandishing his indestructible shield.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
How’s this for finesse?
Stand back.
3 – Vavavoom has Handler 2 in her grasp, gripping him by the face, and slamming the back of his head repeatedly into the steel door. Blood and indentations begin to cover its surface.
VAVAVOOM
Hahahaha!
How does it feel to be used by someone so beautiful?
4 – Handler 2 has produced a device, a powerful stun gun, and stabs it into Vavavoom’s obliques. Electricity courses over her body and she writhes in agony.
VAVAVOOM
AAAGGHHH!!
HANDLER 2
(shaky balloon, small text)
You sicken me.
5 – A much wider hole is ripped in the men’s room floor now, and crushed linoleum rubble and dust litter the floor and dirty Captain America’s shield. Cap holds the Widow over his shoulder, and looking at Handler 1, he gestures into the hole.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
After you.
6 – Vavavoom, smoldering from the Handler’s attack, lifts him from the ground, and with all her might she throws him into, and through, the steel doors barring her passage, knocking them to the ground, and killing the man.
VAVAVOOM
You insolent little freak!
PAGE 19
1 – A small panel, The Power Broker and Vibraxa are both standing in his office in villainous costume. The Red Skull sits within the chest plate of Power Broker’s armored suit like an unbeating heart.
POWER BROKER
(Comm text)
Well done, Agent Fury.
I will be sending other agents to rendezvous with you shortly.
End simulation codename: Fury.
Run simulation codename: Langley.
2 – Nick Fury stands in the undersea base, in the particle collider room, over top the unconscious body of Blue Marvel.
POWER BROKER
(Comm text)
Agent Langley?
FURY/LANGLEY
Yes?
POWER BROKER
It’s covert operations time.
The others will arrive by the end of the day.
FURY/LANGLEY
Understood, Director.
POWER BROKER
Hold that base, soldier.
3 – Power Broker crosses the room and puts his helmet on.
POWER BROKER
Ha ha ha!
This is like taking candy from babies.
Those Life Model Decoys are a Christmas %&*ing miracle.
VIBRAXA
So what’s next?
4 – Power Broker presses himself against Vibraxa and touches her face with his armored hand.
POWER BROKER
I still need access to Ohnn’s and Pym’s dimensional tech, and Lightner’s Nth Projector.
I can’t figure out how it works exactly yet
But Doom mentioned something called
The Negative Zone.
VIBRAXA
What makes you think I care about any of that?
I meant what are WE doing next?
5 – Power Broker and Vibraxa walk down a clean, cozy hall, very business-like, and contemporary. Two sentries are posted behind them, standing outside of PBs office door. Vibraxa stares at the ceiling, rolling her eyes.
POWER BROKER
WE are going to mobilize the last of the LMDs
You’re my protection, sweet cheeks.
VIBRAXA
Boooriing.
6 – Power Broker and Vibraxa stand in an elevator that has begun to close. Vibraxa bites her lip as she glances at the floor.
POWER BROKER
